MANITOWOC, WI – The Capitol Civic Centre invites the community to experience a high-energy evening of theatrical rock as the two-time Tony Award-winning hit musical Green Day’s American Idiot takes the stage for a special one-night-only performance on Wednesday, September 30, at 7:00 pm.
Brought to life by the Forst Inn, this bold, energy-fueled rock opera takes the American musical where it’s never gone before. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album, the 90-minute show features music by Green Day, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong, and a book by Armstrong and Michael Mayer. Relying on the band’s legendary driving rhythms and deeply expressive lyrics to tell its story with minimal dialogue, the production includes every hit song from the American Idiot album, along with standout selections from their follow-up release, 21st Century Breakdown.
The gripping narrative follows three disgruntled young men, Johnny, Tunny, and Will, as they struggle to find meaning in a post-9/11 world. Looking to escape the constraints of their suburban hometown for the thrilling chaos of city life, their paths quickly diverge. Tunny enlists in the armed forces, Will is held back by familial responsibilities at home, and Johnny finds his attention fiercely divided between a seductive love interest and a hazardous new friendship. Intended for mature audiences, this high-octane theatrical event captures the raw angst and heart of a generation.
While the musical will run at the Forst Inn from September 12 through September 27, this September 30 staging at the Capitol Civic Centre offers Lakeshore audiences an exclusive opportunity to witness the spectacular production under the lights of Manitowoc’s premier historic venue.
